Troubleshooting: How to Balance Artistic Whims with Client Requirements

Anyone else struggle with finding that sweet spot where your artistic vision⁢ meets the very‌ specific (and sometimes questionable) demands of a client? I’m working on a logo redesign right now. I had this really striking, ‍modern concept with clean lines‍ and negative ⁣space, but the client keeps pushing for a more “playful” design with, and I quote, “a little winking ‌character” integrated into it.

It’s tough because I want to deliver something they’re happy with, and ultimately, they’re paying the⁢ bills. But I also don’t⁢ want to compromise my own artistic integrity to the point where I’m‍ producing work I’m not proud of. How do you all navigate these⁤ situations? Do you have specific techniques for presenting your ideas in a way that helps clients ⁣understand your vision? Or strategies for gently‌ pushing back⁢ on requests that would wholly derail the design? Maybe it’s just about setting ‌expectations clearly ⁤from the outset, but even then, scope creep happens. I’m curious to hear different perspectives.
