Struggling to Downsize? Tips for Decluttering Your Non-Minimalist Clothing Collection

Okay, so I’m nowhere near minimalist, and my closet reflects that. I’ve been trying to downsize my clothing collection for ages, but it always feels impractical! Does anyone else struggle with letting go of clothes, even if they haven’t worn them in years? I think my biggest problem is the “what if” scenarios. What if I suddenly need that sequined top for a party? What if that vintage dress comes back in style?

I’ve tried some of the usual advice, like the KonMari method, but it just doesn’t seem to stick. I also tried the hanger trick, where you turn all yoru hangers backwards and then turn them the right way when you wear something. After six months,I barely had any hangers turned! I’m thinking of trying a service where I can sell my unwanted clothes online. Has anyone had success with those? Or maybe setting a more realistic goal, like only getting rid of 10 items a month? Any tips or tricks for decluttering that actually work for us non-minimalists would be greatly appreciated! Maybe a different approach to assessing what “sparks joy”?
