I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the different ways artists capture those fleeting creative urges – that sudden image or idea that pops into your head and demands to be expressed. It seems like a lot of people default to digital these days, with tablets and styluses offering incredible flexibility and immediate gratification. You can undo, experiment endlessly, and share your work instantly.
But I’m still drawn to the immediacy and tactile nature of traditional mediums. There’s something about the texture of paper, the feel of charcoal or the way paint mixes that digital tools just can’t fully replicate. Mistakes become part of the process, forcing you to adapt and perhaps discover something unexpected.
I wonder how much the choice of medium impacts the final outcome? Does drawing with a pencil on paper lead to different kinds of ideas compared to sketching on an iPad? Does the “undo” button hinder creativity, or does it free you to take more risks? Interested to hear other artists’ thoughts on this traditional vs. digital debate, especially when chasing those initial artistic sparks.
