I was reading an article the other day about the history of men’s underwear, and it’s actually way more engaging then you might think. Seriously, we’ve gone from loincloths and barely-there coverings purely for protection to a massive industry of different styles, fabrics, and, let’s be honest, fashion statements.
It’s wild to think about how practicality was the sole driver for so long, and then somewhere along the line, comfort and aesthetics started to creep in.The rise of things like jockey shorts and boxer briefs were pretty pivotal, not just in terms of support but also in normalizing a more form-fitting style. Now we have everything from athleisure-focused underwear with moisture-wicking properties to designer brands that are clearly selling an image as much as functionality.
It makes you wonder what the next big innovation will be. Are we going to see more emphasis on lasting materials? Or maybe some kind of smart underwear with built-in sensors? What do you guys think is the future of men’s undergarments?
