Been getting into slow cooking lately, and I’m torn between doing it all myself and using those pre-made kits you find at the grocery store. On one hand, the DIY route lets you completely control the ingredients and tailor everything to your specific tastes and dietary needs. Plus, it’s usually way cheaper. I made a killer pulled pork the other day using a recipe I found online, and the whole thing cost me maybe $15.However, those pre-made kits are just so convenient! No chopping, dicing, or measuring – just dump everything in and go. After a long workday, sometimes that convenience is worth the extra cost. I’ve tried a few chili kits, and while they weren’t as amazing as my homemade version, they still tasted pretty good and saved me a ton of time.
What are your experiences with DIY slow cooking versus using the kits? Are the time savings of the kits worth sacrificing the control you get from doing it yourself? Any particular kits you’d recommend,or recipes you think are foolproof for beginners?
