I’ve been noticing some pretty distinct differences in men’s fashion between Europe and the US lately, and wanted to get some other perspectives. It truly seems like European men, especially in places like Italy and France, frequently enough favor more tailored and fitted clothing. Think slim-cut trousers, well-fitted blazers, and generally a more polished overall appearance. They also seem to lean into more muted color palettes and classic styles that transcend trends.
Simultaneously occurring, American men’s fashion, at least from what I’ve observed, tends to be more relaxed and casual. There’s a bigger emphasis on comfort and practicality, with things like looser-fitting jeans, t-shirts, and athletic wear being more common. There’s also a trend towards bolder colors and more streetwear-inspired looks.
Of course, thes are broad generalizations and there’s plenty of variation within each region.Perhaps environment drives at least some of this variation. I’m curious to hear what others have noticed and if you have thoughts on why these differences might exist, or even if you disagree with my observations entirely. What elements in each region do you think are particularly successful/unsuccessful in terms of style?
