Has anyone else checked out that “Guidebook: 20 Resources for learning About Artistic Whims in architecture?” I found it surprisingly insightful, especially the sections dealing with the historical context of architectural follies. It realy got me thinking about how much personal expression architects *used* to be able to incorporate into their designs, compared to the more standardized approaches common today.
I’m not an architect myself, but I’ve always been fascinated by buildings that break the mold. The guidebook mentioned a few specific examples, like the Watts Towers, that are just so uniquely creative and driven by individual vision. It makes you wonder what we lose when architecture focuses too much on practicality and cost-effectiveness.
What were some of your favorite resources or examples mentioned in the guidebook? Did it change your perspective on architectural design at all? I’m curious to hear other people’s thoughts!
