Saw an ELI5 thread earlier asking about the role of emotion in driving artistic whims, and it got me thinking beyond just “sad people write sad songs.” It seems like emotions, even fleeting ones, act as a kind of filter or lens. You might see a sunset every day, but the day you’re feeling notably nostalgic, it suddenly becomes this incredibly poignant, inspiring thing that demands to be captured.
Is it that emotion provides the *motivation* – the urge to create and express? Or does it actually influence the *selection* of what we choose to focus on artistically? like, a sculptor might normally work with marble, but a feeling of intense anger might lead them to experiment with harsher, less forgiving materials like steel to better convey that feeling.
I’m curious how different people experiance this. Do you find specific emotions consistently lead you down specific artistic paths,or is it more of a chaotic, unpredictable influence?
