Anyone else think about the environmental consequences of our collective shift towards valuing convenience – especially when it comes to food? Fast food’s explosion obviously plays a huge role, but I wonder how much it impacts less obvious things, like the decline of slow cooking.
Think about it: slow cooking, from scratch, generally means fewer single-use packaging items, less reliance on processed ingredients shipped from all over, and utilizing perhaps cheaper (and sometimes locally sourced) whole foods. Fast food pushes pre-packaged, heavily processed items, frequently enough with a huge carbon footprint from production and transportation.
The time savings are undeniable with fast food, but is it truly worth the trade-off in terms of long-term environmental impact? Curious to hear other people’s thoughts and if anyone has tips for making slow cooking more manageable in a busy lifestyle! I’ve been trying to batch cook on weekends and finding it really helpful.
