So, I went all-in on the smart home thing a while back, and honestly, its been more frustrating than futuristic.I ended up with a bunch of different devices from various manufacturers – a security system that barely talks to my lights, a thermostat that seems to have a mind of its own, and smart plugs that randomly disconnect.
If I could do it again, the biggest change would be sticking to a single ecosystem.I was trying to save money by piecing things together, but the incompatibility issues have cost me way more time and headache than any savings were worth. Going with a single hub and compatible devices from the start would have (hopefully) created a much smoother experience.
Also, I severely underestimated the importance of a strong, reliable Wi-Fi network. My old router couldn’t handle all the devices, constantly dropping connections. Upgrading to a mesh network is a must-do before even considering adding more smart devices. Anyone else learn some hard lessons from their initial smart home setups? What would you do differently in hindsight?
