A Failed Smart Home Setup: What I’d Do Differently Next Time

So,⁢ I went all-in on the smart home thing a ⁣while back, ‍and honestly,‌ its been more frustrating than futuristic.I ended up ‌with a⁣ bunch of different devices from⁢ various manufacturers – a ⁤security system that barely talks to my lights, ‌a thermostat that seems to ‍have a mind of its own, and‍ smart plugs that randomly disconnect.

If I could do it again, the biggest change⁣ would be sticking to a single ecosystem.I was trying to save money⁤ by piecing things together, but the incompatibility issues⁢ have cost me way more time and headache than any savings were worth. Going‌ with ‌a single hub and ⁤compatible‌ devices from the start would ‌have (hopefully) created a much smoother experience.

Also, I severely underestimated‍ the importance of ⁤a strong, reliable Wi-Fi network. My‍ old router ‍couldn’t handle ⁢all‍ the devices, constantly⁢ dropping connections. Upgrading to a mesh network is‌ a must-do before even considering adding more⁤ smart‌ devices. Anyone else learn some ⁢hard lessons from their initial smart home setups? What would you do differently in hindsight?
