Seriously, am I the only one completely burned out on constant software updates for everything “smart” these days? I bought a smart bulb *years* ago, and it feels like every other week there’s a new firmware update I have to babysit. It’s supposed to make my life easier, not give me another chore. The worst part is, half the time I don’t even notice a difference after the update. Did my fridge *really* need “improved ice cube dispensing algorithms?” I’m starting to suspect these updates are more about gathering data or patching security holes *because* they designed the thing insecurely in the first place.
And the planned obsolescence angle is infuriating. I worry that if I *don’t* update, my device will suddenly stop working or become vulnerable. But then, how long before they stop supporting the device altogether and force me to buy the next generation? It feels less like I own these gadgets and more like I’m perpetually renting them. Anyone else feel this way? Is there a workaround I’m missing,or are we all just doomed to endless update notifications?
