I’ve noticed a significant jump in my electricity bill lately, and I’m almost certain it’s due to my growing collection of smart home devices. I’ve got smart lights,a smart thermostat, several smart speakers, and a few smart plugs controlling appliances. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this and found effective ways to reduce the power consumption of their smart home setup?
One thing I’ve been considering is switching to LED smart bulbs, as I’ve heard they’re more energy-efficient than the older ones, even when “off” but still connected. I’ve also been tinkering with the thermostat settings to create more efficient schedules. Another thought is whether some devices, like smart plugs, consume power even when the appliance plugged into them is not actively being used. I’ve even looked into turning off “always listening” features where possible on my smart speakers.
any tips or tricks you’ve learned to minimize the energy footprint of your connected home would be greatly appreciated! Are there specific brands or device types I should be looking at (or avoiding) for better energy efficiency? Maybe there are some system-wide settings on a Google Home or Alexa setup I’m overlooking? Thanks in advance for any advice!
