Been thinking a lot about minimalist menswear lately, especially the Japanese and Scandinavian approaches. While both prioritize simplicity and functionality, the execution feels distinctly different. I see Japanese minimalism leaning towards looser, more draped silhouettes, often with muted earth tones and a focus on natural fabrics like linen and cotton. Think wider-legged trousers, oversized shirts, and a generally more relaxed, almost artistic vibe.
Scandinavian minimalism, on the other hand, seems more structured and streamlined. Colors frequently enough revolve around a cool palette – greys, blues, and creams – and the fits are generally more tailored, even though still comfortable. Functionality is key, with a greater emphasis on weatherproof materials and practical outerwear. It’s almost like Japanese minimalism is about quiet contemplation, while Scandinavian minimalism is about efficient living.
