Man, seeing that “Commiseration Post: When Weather Ruins Your Months-Long Expedition Plans” just hit me right in the feels. I spent nearly half a year planning a backpacking trip through the Sierra Nevada, meticulously charting routes, securing permits, upgrading my gear… only to have a freak early snowfall cut it short two days in.
It’s a unique kind of frustration, right? It’s not like a canceled concert or a delayed flight where you can (eventually) get a refund or reschedule. It’s the wasted time, the emotional investment, the anticipation that just… vanishes under accumulating snow.
Anyone else been totally thwarted by Mother Nature after painstakingly planning an outdoor adventure? How did you deal with the disappointment? Did you try to salvage the trip in some way, or just pack it in and plan for next year? I’m trying to figure out the best way to process this and not let it sour me on planning future trips. maybe a shorter trip to the desert is in order.
